Why should I?: A slow burn of doubt, depth, and defiance.

Backroom Gossip is a music production duo from Glasgow, comprised of Geoff Angus and Stefan Celosia. The project is a natural extension of Geoff's deepest interest in sound and his talent as a classical piano virtuoso. He has found a way to merge technical precision with emotional accessibility. They believe that through every note, one story should be conveyed. Their philosophy is that every note should tell a story.
Why Should I? unfolds very quietly with the use of space and silence that speaks as loud as melody.
The simple, sad chord progression that the song begins with really brings to mind a reflective atmosphere. Then comes the singing of the seductive voice that, merely by the sound, carries the whole emotional weight of the song.
The question repeated is used not only as a mantra but also as a challenge, showing a fight between surrender and resistance. The song's slow and steady heartbeat matches the emotional walls breaking down bit by bit, so it gives a very subtle feeling that is also very emotionally gripping. There is little production to reveal the vulnerability that is done through the use of an undercurrent of defiance, which keeps the feeling from turning into despair.
