A Halloween Classic Gets the Sheldon Mashugana Treatment.
Sheldon Mashugana

It’s hard to think about Halloween without thinking about “Monster Mash,” and Sheldon Mashugana has picked a fun way to put his own spin on the classic. Originally made famous by Bobby Pickett in 1962, the song gets a playful makeover here, with Sheldon adding his name to the chorus. It’s a small change, but it fits his silly, over-the-top comedy persona quite well.

There’s no attempt to turn it into something deep or serious. The idea is simply to have a bit of fun with a song people already know.

Recorded at Justin Pierce Music Studio in Dallas, the cover uses a karaoke backing track rather than live instruments. This keeps things fairly simple, with the attention staying on the vocal performance and the familiar tune. Morgan has mentioned that getting the pacing right was a challenge at first, but once he figured out how to approach the vocals, the song became easier to perform.

The best part of this release is how closely it fits Sheldon’s personality. Adding “Mashugana” gives the song a personal joke, while the original’s quirky Halloween spirit remains intact. It may not be a radical reworking of the classic, but that isn't really the point. Sometimes, a familiar song and a bit of silliness are all you need.
