If your playlist is missing a shot of pure energy, ULTAN JP's "Wake Up" is here to fix that.

"Wake up" is the latest release by ULTAN JP. This song was written when a spontaneous burst of creativity came to ULTAN JP, while he was strumming his guitar. This song is an honest expression of frustration. It connects to the feeling of wanting to break free from everything. The lyrics of the song come from ULTAN JP's own experiences. But it feels truly universal. He admits that sharing something like this song was difficult for him. But, the release of "Wake Up" marks a significant step for him.
"This song urges the listeners to shake off apathy and find their voice."
The production of "Wake Up" is intentionally simple, keeping the spotlight on the message of the song. For ULTAN JP, "Wake Up" is a mission statement. It is a call to feel, act, and live with purpose.
We also did an interview with Ultan becuase we LOVED the song, you can check it out here: 1. What were your influences on music when you were growing up? Who did you listen to the most back then? And who do you listen to the most now?
As teenagers, we listened to a lot of 80’s rock. Bands like ACDC, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake etc. Even some American bands like Van Halen and Bon Jovi. These days, I still listen to them. I know there are very good contemporary rock bands like Papa Roach and Three Days Grace, but the originals are insurmountable.
2. What inspires you to create music? Every artist has a unique connection to music. What do you feel when you're creating your tracks?
For me, it’s about getting the mood right, so it’s important to get the right ‘feel’ for the particular subject matter of the song. I think I’ve got something to say, and I want to put it across in the most authentic way.
3. How does your creative process look like? What motivates you to get up and make music?
I could be anywhere or doing anything, and a melody might just pop into my head, or I could be playing guitar, and I’ll spontaneously come up with a riff that sounds interesting. At some point, I will sit down and knead together whatever ideas I’ve recorded on my phone. A lot will never see the light of day, but some work well together. I usually have a chorus idea first. The lyrics of the verses usually come last.
4. If you had a chance to work with any artist you want, who would you choose and why?
I would love Kelly Jones of Stereophonics to sing one of my songs. That would be a trip. What a voice.
5. Why Rock? What draws you to rock music, and what motivates you to create a banger such as "Wake Up!"?
Ha…well, I like all sorts of music but for me rock is the most exhilarating. It has urgency and vitality. It tends to get a reaction, one way or another.
6. What's the message behind "Wake Up!"? What should we expect when we hear the song?
Essentially, the song is a call to reject indifference. Don’t leave it to others. Our consumerist culture is overproducing and wasteful. In my opinion, we could live a simpler, happier life, more connected to each other, without all the material madness. Global warming is a pressing issue that affects us all. Don’t leave it too late.
7. Can you tell an unknown fact about your latest release? Any nit-picky detail about the song that the listener should look out for?
Well, it was done on a budget at Pirate Studios in Dublin. It’s not a polished production but I like the rawness. The video on the YouTube channel was also done with a bit of ingenuity with limited resources.
8. How do you visualize your musical journey from here? What can we expect next from Ultan?
I’ve only just started the promotional campaign, so the idea is to build an online presence first, then get out there and gig with my set. The trajectory is upward all the way. You can visit my YouTube channel at Ultan JP - YouTube or @Ultan-xh3ys. Join the club!
