When it comes to music, Pink Floyd are legends, and not just for their era. Their work from the 1970s had an enormous effect, regardless of whether you call it classic rock, art-rock, or prog. Their 1973 masterwork, The Dark Side of the Moon, ranks highest among their critically and financially lauded record. One of the most acclaimed tracks from that album, "Time," is performed by drummer Nick Mason in this installment of "The Story Behind the Song."
"Time" is a classic Pink Floyd track; it's a philosophical epic that lasts seven minutes. From the memorable sample-based introduction to the guitar solos by David Gilmour and the repeat of "breathe," the whole track is ambitious, thrilling, and one of the finest songs the band ever recorded. The listener is immediately captivated by the song's opening notes. The sound begins with chiming, then as time goes on, it transforms into siren sounds. When the instrumentals begin, you should fully immerse yourself in the music. The bassline is so enchanting that it compels you to carry on playing the tune. In a state of pure bliss, the drums begin to play.
"Taking charge of your own fate is more important than planning for the future, is what Time all about."

The singing makes you wish you could just die and enter paradise. The fact that you can easily tune out the vocals and enjoy the instrumentals alone is one of the best things about instrumental music. The music has such a strong hold on us. I promise you, the lyrics will bring tears to your eyes. A chill down your spine is certain with the combination of David Gilmour's sluggish voice and the eerie background chorus. A single word describes a guitarist's solo act epic.
It is an absolute masterwork. Pink Floyd's music and voice will enthrall you. Upon completion, you will reflect on the moments that have slipped through your fingers, and you will most certainly want to listen to it once again, because, let's admit it, this tune is really mind-blowing!
