Exceptional​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Failures is a duo from Portland whose music is something radically different from the usual two-guys band kind of thing. By having real feelings and, at the same time, giving a full blast, Distler and Damian practically go through a process of turning disorder into order in music and genres—that is, from soul and funk to punk and classic rock. Calling their live shows a vibrant energy and a bold work method, they have earned a fan base safe in the fact that they’ll always get from them unfiltered honesty, daring soundscapes, and genre-bending inventiveness.

The piece starts with a mellow electronic shimmer, as if a kind and tender call to the audience to come into the musical world that is both small and large at the same ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌time. Merged voices of the band members, soft acoustic works, and smooth production all serve to bring out a warm vibe, but indeed it is the bamboo flute that elevates the track to a whole different tier of catchiness. Actually, it’s only after the second chorus that the flute solo—like a deep breath of relief—quietly but powerfully takes over.
