"You’ll Talk About It!" by Lyons Lane: A Fresh Take on Retro Rock and Pop.

There’s something instantly likeable about Lyons Lane.

“You’ll Talk About It!” feels like the kind of EP that doesn’t need to spend too much time convincing you that it’s having fun. It just gets on with it.

The Detroit five-piece brings together rockabilly, doo-wop, classic rock and old-school pop, but the songs don’t feel like they’re trying to recreate another era. That’s probably what makes the EP work. There’s a vintage flavor running through it, especially in the guitars and vocal arrangements, but it doesn’t come across as a nostalgia exercise.

The guitars are probably the biggest draw here. They have that slightly twangy, retro quality that immediately gives the songs personality, but there’s enough alternative-rock energy underneath to keep things moving. You can hear echoes of the Beach Boys, The Beatles, and classic rock ’n’ roll, but the band isn’t simply copying those influences. There’s a little bit of grit around the edges that keeps the whole thing from becoming too polished.

The vocal work also fits the sound nicely. There’s a looseness to it that makes the songs feel lived-in rather than overly produced. At times, it feels like the sort of music you could hear playing from an old radio, except someone has turned up the volume and given it a modern kick.

What I enjoyed most about “You’ll Talk About It!” is that it doesn’t take its influences too seriously. There’s a playful quality running through the EP, and that makes it easy to listen to. You don’t need to be deeply invested in rockabilly or ’60s pop to get something out of it.

There’s also a sense of personality that runs through the EP. Lyons Lane sound like a band that genuinely enjoys playing together, and that energy comes through. Even when the arrangements lean heavily into their retro influences, there’s enough character to make the songs feel fresh. Lyons Lane have clearly spent time figuring out what they want their sound to be, and the result sits somewhere between vintage rock ’n’ roll and modern alternative pop-rock. It’s familiar without feeling completely predictable.

For a debut EP, “You’ll Talk About It!” makes a pretty confident introduction. It has guitars, hooks, personality, and just enough retro charm to make you want to hear what Lyons Lane does next.
