Neil Valmonte Reflects on Life’s Unexpected Turns in “The Road I Didn't Plan On”
Singer-Songwriter Neil Valmonte Explores Change and Acceptance in His Latest Release.

Most of us have had something go wrong that, years later, we’re glad happened. That’s what Neil Valmonte sings about on “The Road I Didn’t Plan On,” his second single, out since 23 August 2026. His debut, “Down by the River,” was about pushing through hard times. This one is calmer. It’s about letting go of the plan and making peace with where you ended up.
The sound has changed a lot. “Down by the River” had loud, distorted guitars and a big choir behind him. This time Valmonte keeps it simple, with violas and semi-acoustic guitar carrying the song. Without the choir, it sounds like he’s talking to you directly, and that fits a song this personal.

What I like most is that he doesn’t wrap everything up with a neat lesson at the end. Sometimes you can’t tell whether a choice was right until years later, and sometimes you never really know. Valmonte seems fine with that, and the song is more honest for it. Anyone whose life went off in a direction they didn’t expect will find something here.
Valmonte writes and produces everything himself from his home studio in Westport, Connecticut, and two singles in, he’s clearly still working out what kind of artist he wants to be. “The Road I Didn’t Plan On” is a quiet, warm song for anyone still getting used to the path they’re on.
