"Little Dutch Rhapsody" by Sergiy Bolotny is a Modern Take on Dutch Folk Music

There’s something quite charming about Sergiy Bolotny’s “Little Dutch Rhapsody No. 1.”

Even without lyrics, the piece feels like it’s telling a story. Knowing it comes from an old Dutch folk song about a farmer travelling with just one shoe makes the music's playful character even more enjoyable.

The violin is obviously at the center of the piece, but it never feels like technical playing for the sake of showing off. There’s a sense of movement throughout, with the melody shifting and developing while still holding on to the character of the original folk tune.
