Finding home in "First Love" by Ananya Ashok.

A tender homecoming steeped in string and self-discovery, where Carnatic tradition is entwined with the silent courage of self, reflecting.

Ananya Ashok - First Love

Ananya Ashok is a genre-blending singer, songwriter and Carnatic musician who effortlessly connects South Indian classical tradition with contemporary indie, folk and alternative pop. She was taught the Veena with a great deal of discipline from a young age, and thus she is capable of enhancing her songwriting with both technical depth and emotional nuance. Growing up in two different cultures, Indian and American, Ashok can transform her personal experience into very introspective music. With her EP Promising Youngster, she is a reflective new voice aware of the themes of identity, belonging, and self-reclamation.

First Love is a gentle and reflective closing track that calmly grounds Promising Youngster in a sense of emotion and clarity.

Ananya Ashok - First Love

Instead of overloading on romantic clichés, Ananya Ashok artistically reinterprets the idea of a first love as a coming back to one's own emotional core, a narrative that is both striking and inspiring. The music is not only delicate but also stirring, as the Veenas soothing timbre beautifully interlaces the layers of soft indie, folk. The music is so calm and quiet that you can see the moment in the music when the personal resolve is still hanging after the music is gone.
