A controversy within the heart: "I Hate Everything About You" by Three Days Grace.

Updated: Nov 18, 2024

Listening to "I Hate Everything About You" doesn't strike you as a song for love or hate at first, but as the lyrics go on, your brain starts to comprehend what a relatable track this might actually be for you. It digs through each of the cracks of a dysfunctional relationship where toxicity and love go side by side.

This emotionally fueled symphony by Three Days Grace dives right into the pool of your heart. An exemplary tri-colored tapestry is what Three Days Grace has been since its birth in 1997, with Adam Gontier on the guitar and his hard-hitting voice, Brad Walst on the bass, and Neil Sanderson with his on-point percussion. Starting off as a five-member band, the group has seen countless ups and downs and cut right through the barriers of life.

Even after listening to the song several times over and over again, the melody will be stuck in your head like a piece of gum, and your body will work with its punky cadence.

The chorus "I hate everything about you//Why do I love you?" clearly expresses the chaos and confusion that shapes a strained relationship, be it platonic or romantic.

The fluid-like flow of the track makes it seem ever so simple, but, to some, the powerful music just latches onto the heart. As Gontier's screaming vocals conceptualize the mess of love and hate, we feel an overwhelming blaze of burning emotions, compelling the brain to scream out the lyrics with every ounce of energy in your gut. "I Hate Everything About You" is filled with flaming explosions and passive-aggressive condemnations, mirroring the path of an already doomed couple.
